Marble settlers, title setters, and terrazzo workers cover interior or exterior walls, floors, or other surfaces with marble, tile, or terrazzo. Craft workers in each of the trades work primarily with the material indicated by their title. Terrazzo is a mosaic, usually made of polished marble, granite, or ceramic pieces. Tiles are made of stone, concrete or baked, glazed clay.

It has been difficult throughout the years to find material that lasts longer than marble, but at the same time is soft enough to be cut to size. For this reason, sculptors have used marble for busts and statues, most sculptures are made of marble. Marble materials for art makings have been widely used in Europe where great painters and artists live. For instance, the work of Michelangelo and Leonardo DaVinci has been recognized as the world-renowned masterpieces with a priceless touch of creativity. It can be noted that marble is a type of a limestone which is quarried or mined in many countries of the world. Terrazzo consists of small pieces of broken stone made of limestone set in mortar and polished in place. Terrazzo is mostly used in flooring, but can be used in other things as well. Terrazzo was developed as a building material by the Venetians in the 1500s.

The diversity of jobs this creates lets skilled workers work on newly-build buildings and other re-modeled establishments. Generally materials are already prepared and ready for use in its operation. It takes only a few required skills on cuttings and polishing for the applicators to do the assignment. Picking up and carrying is generally done by helpers, as well as task of cement-mixing and mortar jobs. With the extra help the worker is able to do their work more efficiently to assure a superior outcome.

Title and terrazzo are used mainly on interior building surfaces, while marble is used primarily as exterior facing. Machine hoists aid in lifting large marble blocks. When setting- up the marble installation, there is a prior laying-out system that must be done by assigned workers. With the application of special plaster that backs the material strongly, the marble is set in its proper position. Piece by piece, the marble is placed firmly following a traced design for a more precise arrangement. A special grout is attached into various edges and joints between the pieces of the marble with a slightly indented pattern that forms a great work of art.

Terrazzo workers lay a base of fine, dry concrete, leveling this with a straight edge. They then place metal strips wherever there is to be a joint or where design or delineations are to be made. The metal stripping is embedded in the first course of concrete. Then the terrazzo workers pour the top course of concrete, a mortar containing marble or granite chips, and roll and level it. Different colored stone chips are used to color whatever pattern has been planned for the finished floor. In a few days, after the concrete has hardened the floor is ground smooth and polished.
