Job Description
Description:
Job Overview
California State University (CSU) San Marcos seeks applications and nominations for the role of Deputy Chief Diversity Officer (Deputy CDO).
CSU San Marcos, founded in 1989, is a Hispanic-Serving Institution which enrolls more Native American students per capita than any other California State University campus. Also, with more than 50% of its graduates first in their families to earn a bachelor's degree, forward thinking leadership in support of student success and social mobility is essential.
The Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE) was established at CSUSM during the 2005-06 academic year and has been a centralizing force for the campus's long-standing commitment to diversity, social justice, and inclusive excellence. Over the past few years, there has been an array of efforts, programs, and initiatives to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across the University. Please see ****for information on previous institutional efforts ranging from the Diversity Mapping Project to the Diversity & Equity Requirement and the 2016 Diversity & Inclusion Strategic Plan (DISP).
CSUSM's inaugural Deputy Chief Diversity Officer (D-CDO) will work with the Office of Inclusive Excellence (OIE) team, report directly to CSUSM's Chief Diversity Officer, to leverage the current Strategic Plan process and campus climate survey results to set clear goals and benchmarks for the institution.
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented an unprecedented challenge across higher education, jeopardizing in-person education while drastically impacting enrollment management and state and federal funding. Furthermore, our nation's social unrest in response to racial injustice across the country has reinforced the University's commitment to anti-racist practices. With the Inclusive Excellence initiative, CSUSM is taking steps to combine its commitment to academic excellence with its dedication to embedding diversity and inclusion in all aspects of campus life.
